State Overview

The Wyoming emergency vehicle light statutes differentiate between emergency and warning lights. Emergency lights are used in emergency situations and are most often blue or red, while warning lights are used to alert traffic of upcoming disabled vehicles, construction, etc., and are often white, amber, or other colors.

Emergency lights are also most often used by authorized emergency vehicles. The Wyoming emergency vehicle light statutes define an emergency vehicle in section 31.5.102 as the following vehicles used by:

  • Fire department
  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Medical rescue
  • Public and private emergency response

And more.

Law Enforcement Statutes

Police and Sheriff Vehicles

According to the Wyoming emergency vehicle light statutes, lights must be visible from a minimum of 500 feet and must be a minimum of 300 candle power. Police vehicles are permitted the use of flashing red and blue lights. They also should have a white and amber light in addition. Additionally, it’s important that police vehicles are marked as such so drivers can easily identify them.
